Religious Studies
Pompallier Catholic College provides many Special Character opportunities for both students and staff.
Religious Studies at the College has two components - the academic and the spiritual / sacramental.
The academic component for Years 7 through 13 is based on the national curriculum. The College helps to fulfil the teaching mission of the Church by living and teaching the values of Jesus Christ. Religious Studies are a core requirement in all Year levels, and are timetabled for each and every student. |
NCEA Unit Standards, Levels 1, 2 and 3 are offered to all students in Years 11 to 13. |
The College offers an annual sacramental programme for students who seek to receive the sacraments of baptism, reconciliation, Eucharist and confirmation. These preparatory classes are offered in lieu of the scheduled Religious Studies classes. |
The Sacrament of Reconciliation is offered during the seasons of Lent and Advent. The celebration of Eucharist occurs every Wednesday at 1.30pm in the College Chapel. |
Students in Years 7, 9, 11 and 13 participate in an annual retreat. |
Students in Year 12 are invited to train as Eucharistic Ministers and are commissioned in Term 4. Sacristan / server / reader training is provided for all interested students. |

Young Vinnies,
the youth branch of the St Vincent de Paul Society,
is also another service opportunity for students.
Marist Youth Leadership is an opportunity for Year 12 students to participate in a programme designed to foster student leadership in all areas of the College, with a special focus on our Marist charism.
Three times a year the entire College celebrates Eucharist in our parish - St Francis Xavier - for the Inaugural Mass and Induction of Prefects, the Patronal Feast Day and the Leavers' Mass.
